About me…

“More freedom to paint how I feel!”

“Painting a song!” Part of a lesson for the Find Your Joy online art course with Louise Fletcher.

Barb DeRousie is a self-taught artist recently relocated to Calgary from Vancouver Island. Since her retirement from nursing in 2017, she has pursued her passion for art, now working in acrylic and mixed media in an abstracted style. She has exhibited and sold her work at various local venues in Victoria, including the Sooke Fine Arts Show, the Gage Gallery and the EJ Hughes Gallery in Duncan. Barb served as an active member of the Gage Gallery Arts Collective in Victoria for over three years, where she welcomed visitors to the gallery, showcased her work, including two solo shows, and led workshops. In addition to her paintings, she is known for her handcrafted Wearable Art Earrings made with mixed media on heavy watercolour paper, sealed for moisture resistance and embellished with glass or semi-precious beads.

The old Pendray House, circa 1927, has served as many establishments in the past, including the old Coast Collective Arts Collective. I had the priviledge to create out of my little studio by the sea for over 4 years before recently relocating to Calgary, Alberta.

What does the future hold? After a busy Fall and Winter selling my little condo in Victoria and buying a house and moving to Calgary, I can’t wait to get painting again! I feel grateful to have a wonderful space to play in our new home, and look forward to see what I make! Follow me on social media and look for upcoming YouTube videos of how all this is going to take shape. I can’t wait to share what happens with you! See you on the other side, as they say.
