Tears for the Blues

In it’s resolve, this piece depicted my connection to my First Nations heritage, with the expression of geometrical and curvilinear shapes, including the dominating red “eye” in the top right area. Several collage elements were used to show visual texture, as well as the ‘speckled’ appearance of paint application, then removing it after spritzing it with water.
I love this piece because the multilayered shapes are soothing to explore, always finding something new, yet the overall image keeps your eye moving around the spaces.

The End of a Better Day

Starting with play, just putting paint down, then scribbling over it, the layers in this piece developed into this seascape. The warmth of the setting sun behind the land mass provides a moment of reflection, both from a felt sense as well as literally, as the clouds are reflected in the water.

If you’re from Alberta, you probably recognize this mountain scene. This is my interpretation of The Three Sisters, a distinct mountain range in Canmore, Alberta. I actually did use a few stock references just to get the shapes, then I was able to let loose and make it mine. Having just recently moved to Alberta, I may be painting more mountains, oh, and the prairie skies!
